BMW launches its crazy, futuristic 75 mph electric scooter

It’s finally here: BMW brings its futuristic concept electric scooter to life as BMW CE 04. This new electric scooter is no longer just a noble design study, but as the first in BMW’s new series of electric urban transportation solutions, it is ready to be put into production.
The BMW CE 04 is very similar to the original concept bike launched last year, while offering some small concessions to simplify the production of the new electric two-wheeler.
But the inclusion of realistic fenders and practical mirrors did not dull the sharp, progressive design. It is characterized by bright colors, floating panels, storage boxes and sharp edges. Even the single-sided rear rocker arm brings new changes to classic engineering.
This electric scooter includes a frame-type electric motor with a peak power rating of 31 kW (42 hp) designed to provide fast urban acceleration. BMW claims that it can reach a speed of 50 km/h (31 mph) in 2.6 seconds, which means that there should be no problem with the rider moving away from traffic lights quickly.
Even considering the continuous motor rated power of 15 kW (20 hp), CE 04 is still more powerful than other full-size urban electric scooters on the market.
There is also a low-power model with a 23 kW (31 hp) motor, although it can still reach the same top speed.
The built-in battery of a higher specification model can provide a capacity of 8.9 kWh and a rated cruising range of up to 130 kilometers (81 miles). The maximum range of the reduced power model is 100 kilometers (62 miles).
Based on the rather thin and flat profile of the saddle, perhaps it’s better not an ultra-long-range travel scooter.
On the contrary, CE 04 focuses on the role of urban commuting, in which functions such as closed helmet storage boxes may score points in the market.
The BMW CE 04 electric scooter can be charged via a simple household wall socket, wall charger or public charging station.
The built-in 2.3 kW charger can provide 4 hours of charging time. The optional 6.9 kW fast charger upgrade can shorten the charging time to 1 hour and 40 minutes.
Fast charging can also charge the power from 20% to 80% in just 45 minutes, representing a more realistic fast charging scene.
The scooter includes advanced rider assistants such as automatic stability control (ASC) and dynamic traction control (DTC), although the latter is an upgradeable option. There is also a reverse gear, which is very helpful for a heavy 230 kg (507 lb) scooter like this one.
The large 10.25-inch color TFT screen is used as the large display and control center of the bicycle. The screen also includes navigation features, allowing the rider to put the phone in his pocket instead of using it as an additional GPS device. Or the rider can choose to store the phone in the charging compartment of the bicycle, which includes a USB-C port. The internal 8.9 kWh battery of the scooter should be enough to charge hundreds of phones.
This scooter will not be available until 2022 and is priced at US$11,795 in the United States. This may make it slightly higher than some competitors, but the new electric scooter is definitely different.
BMW CE 04 is our new electric star for this city. It combines electronic drives with emotion and motorcycle fun. The latest technology and the best batteries also power the BMW iX. Just like CE 04, all new BMW Motorrad models for urban traffic in the future will be purely electric. ”
With the unveiling of this futuristic design of the company’s latest electric scooter, we have to wonder whether the BMW Vision DC Roadster electric motorcycle concept will one day become a reality.
