Genesis launches its first fully electric car: the electric G80 sedan

Hyundai’s luxury brand Genesis today launched its first all-electric car: an electric version of the G80 sedan.
Although Hyundai has had all-electric vehicles for many years, its Genesis brand has never entered the all-electric field.
Although Tesla, Audi, Mercedes-Benz, BMW and other companies quickly injected vitality into the luxury car market.
At the Shanghai Auto Show, Genesis launched the so-called “Electric G80″, which is an all-electric version of its existing G80 luxury sedan.
The G80 was once a very popular luxury car in the United States. In 2017, the delivery volume in the United States reached a peak of 16,000, but sales have since fallen to only a few thousand per year.
“Today is very special, because it represents many of the firsts of the Genesis brand, not only because this is the first time that Genesis has appeared at the Shanghai Auto Show, it is also the first time we have released a new product outside of Korea. Electrified G80 is the perfect balance of sports and elegance, marking us The beginning of the journey into the EV market represents Genesis in the electrification era.”
In terms of specifications, Genisis did not elaborate on the battery pack, but did point out that according to the Korean EV certification system, they are expected to have a cruising range of 427 kilometers (265 miles).
Electrified G80 also has an impressive fast charging capacity of up to 350 kW, and Genesis claims that it can charge the battery from 10% to 80% in 22 minutes.
“The electrified G80 comes standard with all-wheel drive (AWD), which can create powerful performance. This allows customers to enjoy dynamic driving, accelerating from 0 mph to 60 mph in just 4.9 seconds (based on the Genesis R&D Center in motion Test results in mode).”
Like the upcoming Hyundai Ioniq 5, Genesis is also introducing two-way vehicle-to-load technology in its electric vehicles. Its electric G80 will be equipped with a two-way charger capable of outputting 3.6 kW.
Genesis said it will release more details about the vehicle’s launch in North America later this year.
Shanghai, China, April 19, 2021-Today, Genesis officially launched its first electric vehicle model, the Electrified G80, to the global market at the 2021 Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition (2021 Shanghai Auto Show).
“Today is very special, because it represents many of the firsts of the Genesis brand, not only because this is the first time that Genesis has appeared at the Shanghai Auto Show, it is also the first time we have released a new product outside of Korea,” Jay said. Chang, Global Head of Genesis Brand. “The electric G80 is the perfect balance of sport and elegance, marking the beginning of our journey into the electric vehicle market, and represents the Genesis in the electrified era.”
The Electrified G80 is Genesis’s first EV model, setting a new standard for electric cars. Based on the G80 tradition, it perfectly balances sporty elegance, while providing customers with alternative electric power systems, using the latest technology to provide a high level of performance and convenience.
The G80 is the core of the Genesis sedan lineup, representing the perfect balance of sporty elegance and providing a refined driving experience. Electrified G80 not only has the smooth and stable driving experience that pure electric vehicles can provide, but also has strong dynamic performance.
Electrified G80 provides customers with excellent mileage and convenience. According to NEDC standards, it is estimated that the maximum cruising range per charge exceeds 500 kilometers (according to the Korean EV certification system, the company estimates the figure to be 427 kilometers. The cruising range may vary from region to region.). The 350kW fast charge enables the battery to be charged from 10% to 80% in just 22 minutes.
The Electrified G80 comes standard with all-wheel drive (AWD) for powerful performance. This allows customers to enjoy dynamic driving, accelerating from 0 mph to 60 mph in just 4.9 seconds (based on the test results of the Genesis R&D Center in sports mode).
The Disconnector Actuator System (DAS) can also connect or disconnect the motor and drive shaft according to different driving conditions, enabling the vehicle to switch between RWD and AWD to reduce unnecessary power loss and improve efficiency. When equipped with 19-inch wheels, the Electrified G80 has an efficiency of 4.3 km/kWh.
G80 provides 400/800V multiple fast charging systems, allowing customers to use various charging infrastructures. Its driving motor and inverter can increase the voltage level from 400V to 800V, which is a more optimized level of the system and provides more stable charging. Therefore, customers can use 800V fast charging system without additional converters, and can also use 400V chargers.
Electrified G80 also provides V2L (Vehicle to Load) function, customers can use 3.6 kilowatts of electricity, which is higher than the level of ordinary households, and can easily use electrical appliances outside the car.
To ensure that the driving experience of the Electrified G80 is as quiet and comfortable as possible, Genesis equips the vehicle with an active noise reduction road, which is the world’s first noise reduction function in the GV80 SUV. It significantly reduces noise levels by measuring and analyzing road noise and simultaneously generating sound waves of opposite frequencies. The electronically controlled suspension system with road preview function and the adaptive suspension system that can be controlled by the information provided by the front camera also help to create the best and smooth driving experience.
The design inherits the design features of the G80: the “sporty elegance” and the “beauty of white space” of the exterior and interior, as well as the various elements that we distinguish between electric cars.
Genesis’s iconic Crest grille evolved into an aerodynamic logo with an inverted G matrix pattern, emphasizing the sustainable development mission of Electrified G80. The charging door is located in the upper right corner of the grille and is not visible when closed. Inside the charging door, a two-wire chrome-plated design is also used, demonstrating its design identity and consistency.
Electrified G80 uses the latest technology, especially in the field of sustainability. Genesis purchases a variety of natural or recycled materials for its interiors, such as leather and natural dyes for seats, consoles and rear seat armrests, environmentally-friendly natural wood decoration using recycled wood, and environmentally-friendly recycled PET fabrics.
Electrification is one of Genesis’ key strategies, as it aims to design and provide new experiences for customers of electric vehicles. Genesis launched its EV product portfolio with the Electrified G80, and will continue to promote innovation in this field and launch more EV models.
More information about the Electrified G80′s arrival in the United States and Canada will be shared later this year, including more detailed information about North American specifications.
